As a new radio season unfolds, Faith Makubung — widely known as DJ Fae Fae — is stepping into 2026 with purpose, passion and a clear vision for what comes next. More than just a voice on air, she’s carving out space as a cultural curator, creative and champion for women in music.
Currently holding it down on YFM, Fae Fae returns with another season of All Girls On Deck (AGOD), airing every Saturday from 18:00 to 20:00. The show has grown into a powerful platform dedicated to spotlighting female DJs, amplifying their work and reshaping perceptions in a male-dominated industry. For Fae Fae, it’s not just about airtime — it’s about building a community and shifting the narrative.
That momentum is set to spill beyond the studio, with plans underway for a live All Girls On Deck experience. The concept aims to bring the energy of the show into a shared physical space, connecting audiences with the talent and stories behind the decks in a more immersive way.
Behind the scenes, she’s equally focused on growth. Currently studying Music Production at Boston Media House, Fae Fae is intentionally expanding her skill set, with her sights set on producing her own music. It’s a move that signals a deeper evolution — from selector to full-spectrum creator.
Her ambitions don’t stop at music. Driven by a desire to explore every facet of her creativity, she has begun taking wig-making classes, laying the groundwork for a future hair business. It’s a venture she sees as part of a broader lifestyle brand, one that reflects both her entrepreneurial spirit and her personal style.
With a packed year ahead, Fae Fae is already mapping out a series of key moments — from a birthday celebration and winter tour to curated experiences for Women’s Month, alongside travel and performance opportunities that will take her sound even further. At the core of it all is a bigger mission: to unlock the potential of female DJs across Africa and elevate their presence on a global stage.
“This year already feels exciting,” she says. “I’m ready to take my career, brand and other parts of my life to greater heights. I want the world to know that yes, we look good, but we really do know how to DJ. We’re building a community of female DJs not just in South Africa, but across Africa and beyond. It’s time to embrace and recognise that talent because we are here to stay.”
Fae Fae’s journey began in 2013 as a radio news anchor at UJFM, before transitioning into presenting and eventually stepping behind the decks in 2019. By 2020, she had taken the leap to leave corporate life behind and fully commit to radio and DJing — a decision that continues to pay off as her profile rises.
Now, with a growing platform and a clear sense of purpose, DJ Fae Fae isn’t just making her mark — she’s creating space for others to rise alongside her.
